Environmental Sustainability
We believe in protecting the beautiful environment of Northland that we live in and enjoy, and want to ensure that both our children and your children and grandchildren can visit and enjoy it too.
Bella Vista Motel has been working actively to ensure that our business and guest experience can be the best it can through a sustainable viewpoint. We will try to actively reduce any adverse effects through buying wisely, using resources efficiently, disposing of waste responsibly, and providing an environmentally and socially responsible experience to our guests.
We have researched and developed Responsible Tourism policies and procedures. We incorporate these into everyday workplace practices. Our Staff are familiar with these procedures, trained to work environmentally and are encouraged to offer ideas and improvements. We welcome your feedback on our initiatives and your suggestions on how we can improve our responsible tourism operation.
Being a relatively new business we are anxious to form an ongoing relationship with our community. We regularly support local organizations through discounted and donated accommodation. Surplus linen and chattels and unclaimed lost property are sent to Hospice or Salvation Army. An annual Christmas donation of food is made to the Foodbank and SPCA. We are a supporter and Member of the Matakana Island conservation project.
Some of the environmental initiatives we practice are as follows:
We are reducing our waste by:
• Giving you the opportunity to recycle your rubbish.
• Composting garden waste & food scraps.
We are preventing pollution by:
• Using a chemical free cleaning system.
• Monitoring what goes into our storm water drains.
We are reducing our energy demand by:
• Using energy efficient lighting in all areas
• Offering a towel and linen change agreement which ensures you are helping the environment by reducing energy and water use.
We are conserving water by:
• Installing devices in taps and shower heads to reduce water volume.
• Using dual-flush toilets.
Our buildings have been designed with sustainability in mind:
• Your room is thoroughly insulated to keep you warm and quiet..
Bella Vista Motel understands the importance of a wise buying policy by:
• Purchasing locally, which helps reduce carbon emission from transport.
• Buying environmentally sustainable products.
• Buying products made in New Zealand.
Eco tips for guests
• Save energy by turning the heating down/off when you don't need it.
• Save energy by switching off the lights when leaving your room.
• Save energy, water and detergent by re-using towels instead of having them replaced - hang them up if you'd like to reuse them.
• Recycle your rubbish where you can, saving resources and reducing pollution.
• Shop locally and buy ethically produced products wherever you can. Use reusable or compostable bags wherever possible.
